Please sign this on-line petition to help us get rid of Terry Grier. Also, please pass it onto friends and family.

What happenned in High Point could happen to Northwest one day.

Thankyou.

We feel for you and we have our fingers crossed that our kids don't suffer the same fate that your kids have. We have enough issues with him thank you....

Perhaps we could ask the Summerfield Town Council member who petitioned to have our mayor elected instead of appointed (and then later withdrew support of his own petition) to start a new petition to have the Stupidintendent position be elected as well.

:D

If signing a petition would get us some newer and larger school buildings, I'm all for it!  With growth in the NW area the way it is now, the 20+ trailers at NWHS will be more like 50+!  They have already taken away some of the athletic area for the latest addition.... GIMMIE A BREAK!

Sorry to disagree with you, DToney, but we DON'T NEED bigger schools..... We need MORE schools. 2200+ is TOO BIG for a high school, 1,000+ for a middle school is TOO BIG; and 750 is TOO BIG for an elementary school. I think the Guilford County School system is living proof that BIGGER ISN'T NECESSARILY BETTER! ♥♥♥

I agree macca... and I am sure DToney will too... I would think she means that if they are gonna cram a zillion kids in a building at least make it safe and give them room to spread their wings a bit.....It's just amazes me that the staff in our schools can actually make it work with that many kids.... :D

Yeah, IMAGINE how high those almighty test scores would be if our kids actually had SPACE to work and enough supplies and all that???? Including enough qualified teachers???? (Referring to all the turnover/unfilled vacancies at the high school this year...)♥♥♥

Ditto, Macca! Glad to see there are more kindred spirits around. It would be nice if people would band together acorss the county. I just don't think parents realize what a powerhouse they could be if they'd get organized and work together for a common cause.

I am intrigued by the forum's name "Help us Oust Grier".  While I'm the first to jump on the "oust Grier" bandwagon, it's probably not for the same reasons as others.  Oh well, that's another topic for another day.  Here's the problem I have with the "oust Grier" folks....

Terry Grier is not elected.  Although he is the most powerful and most political element in Guilford County, he does not answer to the citizens of the county.  He doesn't answer to the parents, teachers, or county commissioners.  He has a small group of people that he has to satisfy on a daily basis - the school board.  In fact, he doesn't even have to satisfy all of them all the time.  At any given point, all he has to do is keep 6 people relatively "happy" with what he is doing.

Replacing a school superintendent in Guilford county has always been difficult.  Does anyone remember Jerry Weast?  He held on like a tick until another job was offered in Maryland.  The board of education couldn't get six votes lined up to save their collective lives - let alone help the schools.  So why should anyone be suprised when Terry Grier installs cronies from TN, implements a gazillion new programs and projects, adds costs and waste to an already burdened system - and then is not soundly beaten by the board that is elected to keep this from happening.

Folks, Terry Grier can only do what the school board allows him to do.  We can holler and complain about his schemes and plans all we want, but for the most part it's falling on deaf ears.  Currently, Dr. Grier has four votes in his pocket for anything - and I do mean ANYTHING - he wants to do.  3 of those four represent other districts.  Susan Mendenhall, Alan Duncan, and Marti Sykes are in some way obligated to always support the superintendent no matter what he does or says.

Dot Kerns (an At-Large representative) is another issue.  She is supposed to represent the entire county.  Unfortunately, she is Terry's biggest cheerleader.  She can't (or won't) object to anything he proposes.  Knowing this - why in the world did parents and voting citizens return her to that position in the last election?  That's beyond me.

Our NW representative, Darlene Garrett, can be counted on to voice her opinions and disagree with the superintendent.  The good side/bad side is that Mrs. Garrett is very polite and professional when it comes to issues we need addressed.  She is well informed and willing to work with the entire school board.  90% of the time that works.  However, when it comes to Terry Grier, we need a pit bull approach.  We need someone willing to raise a little "heck" and bring this issue to a boil.  Someone elected to represent us must stand up and say "I'd like to make a motion that we adjourn to discuss the termination of the school superintendent."  That will get a lot of attention.

Bottom line - ousting Grier is only going to happen when voters oust school board members and replace them with people that are ready to make some noise and create positive change.
