I am aware some of you have had problems with the forum in the past several days.    Some of these problems include:
  • can't get on Town Forum thru NWO web site
  • inability to post - you type information, hit "send" and nothing happens
  • forum very slow
It would be helpful if y'all would report any issues you have, so we ensure they are known, and get fixed in a timely manner.

Thanks

GREAT IDEA STEVE-O!!!

I am officially reporting in to say that I am not recieving ANY emails from the forum host.  I used to get them by the bucketloads alerting me that someone had posted (so I'd know where to check) or sent a PM.

Some on here have said that they are getting sporadic emails, but I have not recieved any in the past week.

Hi, Macca.

I have been online daily and reading other postings.  I primarily look for current postings of interest, and may respond to one that grabs my attention.

Ok Blue Dev.  I deleted my cookies just like you recommended. When I did that I was automatically logged out of the forum.

I didn't think of that before, but I never log out of the forum. It's set as my homepage so when I sign online the forum comes up and I'm logged on.

Once I remembered my password :? I got logged back on fine, but maybe that'll reset cyberspace and get the emails started again.

Just waiting for someone to post something now.......

Cross your fingers..... :D

THANKS!!!!!!!

I am getting emails for the other threads but not MAAN. I cleaned out cookies and files on IE which immediately lost my log in so then I had to search for my password. I am back now.  Hope I didn't lose my scuba equipment.

Well shoot.  It seems to me that it must be a problem on my end if others are getting some emails.

However, that wouldn't explain Jane's mysteriously missing MAAN emails though.....

I haven't gotten any e-mails about postings in the past couple of days.... I was getting them on all forums I'd ever posted on (which was most) then only sporadically about postings on MAAN, now none at all....:(:(:(

It was an easy way to access the forums, because I would click on one of the e-mails to take me to the forums, then cruise the rest! Of course, now that I don't have my direct link to the forums, it doesn't matter about the e-mails, because I can't just click on them anyway. FYI -- I can still access the internet via my "old" way of accessing the forums and I can access the NW Observer web site, I justs can't get to the forums.... I get an error message about being unable to open that page....

I can survive without the e-mails; I had just gotten used to having them as a notice about the new postings....

^ note date (Friday) and time. Forum is running in super slo motion.  Probably just the entire world hanging out on the www or something, but thought I'd make note of it.  Perhaps we'll begin to see a pattern or something.

I agree.........the overall speed of this forum seems to go into grandma gear on Friday night and stay that way off and on thru a good part of the weekend.   It is painfully slow tonight, don't understand it.

I am aware that the performance of the message board is very slow. It started last night and continues today. I've reported it to the hosting service as I have done before. Not too happy with those guys right now. You expect an occasional glitch but this is too frequent. I'll stay after them.

Thanks for your patience.

THANKS FOR ALL YOUR EFFORTS, BLUDEV! I'VE BEEN REPORTING PROBLEMS TO SAFARI, WHICH IS HOW I LOG ON, HAVE RE-SET COOKIES, ETC... SOMETHING "CLICKED" THIS MORNING, THOUGH... MAYBE IT WAS WORKING ON ALL THAT DURING THE TIME I COULDN'T POST ANYTHING!!

(Sorry about the game the other night.... We kept hoping Duke would win, even though LSU seemed so strong from the very beginning!) ♥♥♥

My only difficulties with the forums today are in terms of speed, but it is MUCH better now than it's been in the past week or so! In fact, I didn't notice a problem with it today until Crackah posted and noted himmer's difficulties.... After that, I had a brief (a couple of minutes or so) period when I couldn't get on just by clicking on the e-mail. Since then, just the slowness...
I seem to be getting e-mails now whenever anyone posts, while during the past week I would get them sporadically....

Hope this helps!!! Thanks for all your hard work!!♥♥♥

This is the Crackah is reportin' in with my official list of strange cyber happenings on this forum.

1.  NOT ONE EMAIL HAS CROSSED MY BOX ALERTING ME OF A POSTING OR PM SINCE MY FIRST REPORT OF MISSING EMAILS. NOT ONE. (Have checked and unchecked all necessary boxes, logged off and on, deleted cookies, rebooted, and checked spam folders) They used to come reliably, then became sporadic then stopped completely. Continuous problem.

2.  Forum runs slow as molasses sometimes and other times it's fine.  I have tried noting times and dates to see if there is a pattern, but can't come up with one. Intermittent problem.

 3.  Sometimes when posting or PMing, when I click send I am taken to an error page.  PMs seem to go thru fine in spite of the error message but postings do not.  Intermittent problem.

4.  I have actually had less trouble with graphics and smileys in the past 2 months or so than I did in the beginning.  The only ones I can't see occasionally are Macca's hearts and I think it has to do with her OS or Web Browser or something.  Intermittent problem.

I started noticing the regularity of these problems around March 17th I think.

I access the forum usually through America Online, but often use IE 6.0 web browser (Have trouble on both AOL and IE web browsers) and have Windows XP OS.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for working so hard on this Blue Dev!  I know you're frustrated, but we appreciate it!

Cracker Jax - Which email reader do you use? Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird, Eudora, etc.???

Do you have a spam filter and if so have you checked to be sure these emails are not hiding in your spam folder?

The support folks at the hosting service think they have found a reason for the intermittent slow performance....we'll see. But, they do not understand the email problems. They have not identified any problems.

America Online Blu Dev... Same as I've always used.

Apparantly Outlook won't work with AOL... or at least I'm not smart enough to make it work...

There is a spam catcher built in on AOL and I check it daily.  Nothing from the forum is ever there.

Correction.... I just checked spam folder for today's spam (usually check it each night) and there was ONE email at 8:44 am this morning telling me that Pappy had replied to the Community Park forum.

I told that silly folder that it wasn't spam too!

None in spam folder on previous days.

You know something Blu Dev??  I just noticed something very interesting.

I opened that spam email and noticed that Pappy's post is in the email...Everything he wrote on the forum during that particular post I can read without going to the forum and signing on...

I went back a month or so and opened some old emails from the forum and it used to just tell who'd posted and where...

Didn't used to let you read the actual posting in the email....

BluDev, Crackah reminded me to tell you that all last week (when I couldn't use my regular browser, which is Safari) I couldn't quote other posters without adding my post to theirs... You know, my post would just show up as part of theirs.... That was using Firefox as my browser....Of course, now everything is going fine for me....♥♥♥

Windows XP

Internet Explorer  V6.0

Email.........go thru RR, uses Outlook express, mine never seemed to stop.

As you know, I am frequently logging on from far flung locations, I avoid going thru the firewall at work, just to remove one more failure mode.

Ditto Cracker on 2, 3, 4 above.   The one I'll add is I've had cases when I've been trying to post, get it all typed out, hit the "send", and nothing happens, just sits there.  I'll copy the whole mess to avoid having to re-type, go back to a topic, then have to post again.  Intermittent Problem.

The overall speed & performance is great tonight............back to normal.

Howdy BluDev!  Just thought I'd drop in to mention that the world (forum) has spun off it's axis and now all of the forums are backward and upside down... for instance, page 279 of MAAN is now page 1 and the latest post is now at the top of the page. :(

You're probably aware of it, but just wanted to make sure you knew....

I posted this on the web site forum earlier, without realizing I was posting in the wrong place!!!!:

Well, it looks as though the forums have changed so that now what was at the end is now at the beginning..... I guess it's still in the changing phase because when you click on the link it takes you to the end still. If you click on the name of the forum, though, it takes you to where you need to be.... Also, the e-mail you get telling you there's been a new posting also takes you to the older postings, not to where the new one is..... ♥♥♥

Alright - everybody just settle down. ;)  If your head is spinning and you are feeling nauseus back away from the screen.

The Forum is in the process of getting a facelift so if your world is upside down it's only temporary.

Firecracker is trying to present your posts from newest to oldest. That was accomplished but it seems that repositioning when you submit a post or link from a notification email still takes you to the last page.

Hang in there we'll get it right soon enough.

Ok... breathing... taking deep breaths....

I will try to hang on until things are right with the world again!

BTW....I'm really missing that link up there that is usually between "Welcome to Town Talk" and "Forum Policies and Procedures" too! I think it said "Welcome to our Online Forum" or something...

Cracker, keep taking those deep breaths.  This is kind of like moving all of your personal belongings, furniture, appliances, etc. ... a few things get temporarily lost, but I promise, we'll get them back ... maybe not immeditely, but soon. :)

I read several forums (or I call them "message boards") across the world wide web and on all of them, while threads are presented in order of newest to oldest, messages within the thread are presented oldest to newest.

Now I am admittedly a backwards reader so I can adjust to the new format eventually but to me, it makes much more sense to have messages within a thread read from oldest to newest. For example, if you click on a thread that you haven't read in a while (or maybe, have never read), you have to scroll backward to read what you have missed.

I also read some "blogs" out across the WWW and those do usually present postings in order of newest to oldest but blogs are (usually) only posted to by one person. A blog is like reading someone's diary or journal - in which case, you probably would flip to the most recent entry first!

The forum, in my humble opinion, is NOT a blog but a "running conversation". In order to participate in the conversation, you need to know what's been said and logically (to me at least!) the conversation needs to "read" from oldest comment to newest comment.

DISCLAIMER: This is just my very humble opinion and knowledge I have from my travels out into the great world wide web! If the NWO staff wants to change it, I'll adjust (somehow:-) :D

Makes sense to me too Kris.... This is pretty much the only forum I hang out on so I don't know what goes on out in the real world, but I didn't really have a problem with the way it was before.  It's kind of wacky  how we are tossed around from page to page now.... (I know, I know... he's fixin' it :D) when you post, instead of being taken to the page you posted on, you are taken back to the first page of that thread.  Also when you are in the process of posting, you can't see the comments immediately previous to yours (the latest comments) you can only see the first page of that topic again...

NOT COMPLAINING.... just making observations from the trenches.....

I'm willing to give it a go and let firecracker do his thing before staging an all out mutiny!!:D:D:D

Hi Kris,

The preference for oldest posts to newest posts versus newest to oldest seems to depend on whether you're a "regular" poster or new to the Forum.  Those of you who have been longtime posters seem to like the way it is; those who are new don't want to have to scroll through several pages to see the latest comments on an issue.  Sometimes there are weeks in between posts on a topic, for example, and maybe something new happens to get people talking.  If you're a regular, you get an email notice and it takes you right to the end where the latest comments are.  However, if you're new to the site, you have to scroll to the end, sometimes past weeks or months of comments, to view the latest conversation.

We'll try to keep both groups in mind as we incorporate changes to both the Web site and the Forum, knowing that sometimes in order to accommodate one, we have to inconvenience the other a little.

Feedback from "regulars" and newcomers is appreciated, so please keep it coming.

Thanks Patti, I guess I will have to become "irregular" so that this will work for me :D

I'm not trying to argue or anything (let's call it "debate" - sounds nicer :D) but if I were not a "regular" and popped in on the forum, I wouldn't post anything without reading back to see what had already been said. I mean, I just don't think it's right to jump into a conversation without having at least SOME understanding of what has already been said.

Kris - I agree with you. Most often topics are listed according ot the last post - which means the topic with the most recent post is at the top. As far as posts within a topic goes, I like the traditional oldest to newest sequence but maybe that's just what I am used to. Apparently we've gotten some feedback that some people want to see posts newest to oldest.

What's that saying...you can please some of the people some of the time but.....:)

I guess the only way to make this sign work now is to quote whoever we agree with! Otherwise, we'd have to figure out how to turn him upside down!!!¡¡¡ ♥♥♥

BTW: If people don't get e-mail notices of postings, they can easily get to the last post (under the way things used to be:( ) by clicking on the arrow beside the name of the person who is listed as being the last poster. ♥♥♥

Good points, Kris! Pappy can go either way (in this sense) but it would be nice if'n it would send us back to the last (most recent) post after we post somethin'. Right now it sends us back to the oldest post. It's like playin' "Sorry" with the young'uns.

Yea, really good point about the ditto sign Macca.... I'm gonna miss that little fella...

Pappy, can you turn him upside down??? :P

Patti, are the complainers folks who have taken the time to learn how to quickly navigate to the end of the postings??  If they don't have a green arrow, there's always the little black one at the end of the string of #'s at the bottom that takes you to the last page....

SRedmon...no need to delete your posts!  Let's us know you care!!! :D

Just so you will know - I didn't write the program used ....I'm just trying to tear it down and rebuild it.....

I'm aware of the posting issues (kicking you back to the old messages) and I have looked everywhere to try and find the code doing that....I also have a support email in to the board creator....

I just logged back in and found the forum had been reset to show old posts first - I'm not sure why that is happening but this system is a little "unique"....

Patience and worst case scenario I'll just return everything back to normal....Normally we don't develop on a live system but I have no choice with this application....

Thanks so much!

Change is necessary for future initiatives....There are some design issues that need to be addressed in this application (as you are aware) as well as a visual enhancements.....

But don't mind me - I'm here in the background and you guys carry on.....I'll be posting & deleting....

Again - Sorry for any inconvenience but its necessary at the moment....

Anything we do will only be better in the long run....

******** ATTENTION ALL USERS ********

Hello Everyone -

We certainly appreciate your patience and I wanted to take this opportunity to let each of you know that we appreciate your feedback as well....I spoke with Patti today and based upon the responses we are going to return the Forum back to posting the comments as they were in the beginning....instead of making the latest response appear first...I also spoke to the developer and he is aware of the "glitch"...however that doesn't matter now since we are back to normal methods...

The forum should be as it was in the beginning and if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask...

Thanks again for your understanding & patience during our "fine tuning"

Scott

I am seeing several comments from folks who are noticing the system slowing down again.

I am the only one on at this time (appx) 1:50am, and the system is very slow.

Please remember to post your trouble comments in this section, thanks

You talkin' about a photo or smileys DT???

If it's a photo you're after or somethin' off of your PC I'd recommend settin' up a Photobucket account.  You upload your pictures there and that site assigns a URL that you can enter when you click the insert photo button up a the top when you're editing.

Go to http://www.photobucket.com and set up an account for yourself.  upload your pic.

If you need more help let me know. commercial is over... be back soon.

I wish I knew Skiddles.   The math side of this software is kind of wierd, ie I've spent time reading the calculation on "manna", and still don't understand it.

And sometimes 1 + 1 don't equal 2, as you point out above.

However, the posted comments seem to be right on every time.

One thing I have noticed, is that when I first come on to the NWO web site in the mornings, and then open the Forum front page (index of threads), that my screen name does not appear on the list until I either make a post or open one of the Topics or topic threads. Perhaps this is true of others showing up as members within the numbers without their screen names being listed.

I appreciate you trying to fix my mana problem Steve-O. ;)

I think they just throw random words like algorithim (sp?) in the explanation so that we won't feel smart enough to question how the whole thing works.

Agreed Jimbo

I also noticed when I first come on, and look at the members, my name might still be there even though I logged off some time ago.    There are some quirky things to the software.

Macca, it's probably Councilman Crawford's "mini me (not ME, HIM)" program.  He stated at one council meeting that he's written "a little program" to cross reference the forum for him so he can figure out who everyone is.

Macca, can't prove it, but I'd tend to think our infamous spammer has our site on his radar at all times, and is probably the "guest".  Wish I had some electronic "Raid".

Just learned that the 1983-03-28 birthday was massively used by spammers around christmas time this year. -(I assume this means that for some reason they are using this brthdate all the time and it just started this past December)

Anyway, saw that the wowbb people were working on an add-on to the software to block the regsitration of those users. No ETA at this time though.

ff12, If it is showing up as changed on your account, then it will likely eventually show up here. I've noticed that happening sometimes when I've made changes. In fact, sometimes others can see the change before I can! We'll be on the lookout and let you know when we see it change.... ♥♥♥

Anyone else notice any problems with the forum being s-l-o-w this morning? I just got tied up over on Bullwinkle's Corner, where I couldn't preview what I was trying to post, and then it was posted like 20 times! (Maybe it was just me, but I'm wearing my duct tape hat for now, just in case.)

Jane and I also noticed that the "Most users" number has been altered. She says that we had 41 posters earlier this week (I don't remember when, but it is likely documented on MAAN), so if it's being adjusted for accuracy, why wouldn't that # be used? Just trying to make sure no more monkey biz is going on......:?

the forum has slowed to a crawl once again.

It's 2:30 am, I'm the only fool on here, and it's slower than heck.

Historically we've attributed slowness to loading up a particular topic with graphics, but this time it seems universal to all topics.  I visited other forums I use, and they are not experiencing the same issues.

BluDev, sorry amigo, the boys at wowbb must be selling alot of subscriptions and clobbering the band width

Is it a pretty red tractor, ff12?? I was getting ready to tell you how pretty I thought it was!!

I can see that fancy red tractor too ff12.  It's got something to do with stale cookies or some other computery graphical mumbo jumbo.  Hang in there... I'm sure it'll appear for you soon!

Note to mods:  Before you you start power trippin' on us ;), I'd like to argue that we're not really off topic since the "Forum trouble" was that ff12 couldn't see his tractor and we're just tryin' to help him and pappy was tryin' to remind him what a real tractor looked like and all..... :D (Ok, ok.  I'll OT myself)

And now, back to Forum Trouble Reports.
