Dear one and all,

Thank you so much for the very cheerful and colorful Happy Birthday messages. It is a little strange to have your birthday so publicized, especially when you're as old as I am -- and yet it's been fun.  I've received e-mails, visitors stopping by, phone calls and now this -- my first-ever online birthday party!

I am touched and honored, and promise that for whatever few precious years I may have left, I will continue to serve you as well as I can for someone of my age.  My physical energy may be waning, but my mental activity is in high gear --hopefully they'll continue to find ways in which I can still be useful around the office. If not, I will soon be volunteering as Mayor Mark Brown's right-hand person, in charge of park restroom maintenance.  Hey -- if I can't have a key to the city, maybe a key to the restroom will be almost as good!

Now, for those of you who have not only reached my age, but surpassed it -- any advice? I mean, come on, how did you deal with turning 50?  Did you get wacky?  Depressed?  Take it in stride? Buy a new red sports car? Confess, please!:D

I'll look forward to some "Turning 50" stories and in the meantime, many thanks for the well wishes!

Patti, I think you should rush right out and buy that new red sports car. Sport Auto is practically on your way to the office. In fact, if I were you, I'd buy two of them  -- one for you and the other for your much-esteemed business partner!!

Don't feel bad about turning 50. I heard just the other day that 50 is the new 30. So you're actually younger than you thought!

Wishing you a very, very happy birthday, Patti!!

Bear in mind the sage wisdom of Jimmy Buffett:

"I'm growing older but not up"  :D

Jimmy Buffet is indeed full of sage wisdom. Who can argue with somebody who sings about being "Wasted Away in Margaritaville"? Patti, if you need a short, cheap vacation for your birthday, you can go there!

And there's always that Cheeseburger in Paradise song.....

Who wouldn't want to go to paradise and eat a cheeseburger?
