getalong, How many board positions are open and have people been nominated for them? If so, maybe you (or somebody else reading this) could tell who they are. Can anyone attending the meeting vote? Also, I'm assuming this is for anyone who lives in the Stokesdale fire district, whose boundaries aren't the same as the town limits.

If I recall properly, there are usually people sitting at tables outside the meeting area. They have rosters (much like the voting records) and they give you a ballot after you tell them your name and they confirm that you live in the district. Of course, sometimes there is no need to actually vote and turn the ballots back in, b/c they only have the same # of people running as there are seats available.

I don't know what the requirements are in terms of getting names on the ballots, but I do know that it seems over the past several years there have just been the same # of names as positions. I don't know how many times a person can run again for a seat on the Board (how many times you can hold a 2-year term).

There are six members of the board that are coming off.  Another words there term is up.  stokesdale needs open minded board members that want whats best for there employees and volunteer staff.  There are two board members that there sons work there.  The chief is the supervisor of the fireman, and the board is the supervisor of the chief.  Then you have two board members that there sons work there which puts the chief in a bad spot for punishment and to make decisions with these two gentlemen. Its a touchy subject but us the people in the community need to be aware of how our tax dollars are handled because yes that is our money, and we should be involved. :)

Other than firemen there, maybe twenty community members were in attendance.

We did not have to vote , one new board member, Todd Harmon wi take the seat vacated by John Flynt who chose not to run again.

Deputy Chief Randy Southard was the recepient of the fireman of the year award. He spends more hours doing fire dept business than anyone I know, makes just about every call that we are dispatched on and is the treasurer for the Guilford County Firemans assoc.  He  also answers many calls for checkups when  the FD is not alerted. All this while working full time and raised two kids. if everybody that lives in the town could be dedicated to volunteer work like he is then  Stokesdale would  make the top place to live  list in every magazine. Oh yeah  ,  Randy  was doing all this time  sacrificing when he was not  an officer also.

THANK YOU RANDY FOR ALL YOUR SACRIFICES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
